How to Calculate Shaker Cabinet Door Stile, Rail, and Center Panel Dimensions Without Ruining Hardwood

To build a Shaker cabinet door that never cracks at the joints, calculate your finished door width and height first (Cabinet Opening + 2 × Overlay), cut your two Stiles to the exact finished door height, and cut your two Rails to: Finished Door Width − (2 × Stile Width) + (2 × Tenon Depth). For a 15" × 24" door with 2-1/4" stiles and a 3/8" groove, your rails are 11-1/4" and your plywood center panel is 11-1/8" × 20-1/8" (leaving a 1/16" Spaceball gap per side).
