Shaker Drawer Front Dimensions

The 18 × 5-inch drawer face leaves 1.1875 inches of cut-panel height with this frame. That is below our three-inch planning flag: consider slim rails or a slab; the flag is not an industry standard.

Is there enough panel height for a five-piece drawer face?

A shallow drawer face can have a positive calculated panel and still leave little useful visible center. The table flags a cut-panel height below three inches as our planning rule to consider slim rails or a slab; it is not an industry standard.

The rows compare complete regular and slim frames. A separate rails-only example keeps the regular stiles so the handle and side proportions can stay consistent with neighboring cabinet doors.

The decorative front is not the drawer box. Establish front size and mounting clearance first, then use the drawer-box calculator for the box, bottom and slide constraints. A taller front does not automatically provide more internal drawer depth.

Rails-only alternative: keep 2 1/4" (2.2500) stiles on the 18" (18.0000) × 5" (5.0000) face, use 1 1/4" (1.2500) horizontal rails, and the panel is 14 3/16" (14.1875) × 3 3/16" (3.1875). Open the rails-only comparison.

Two worked choices for this front

The shallow face: choose an all-slim frame, slim horizontal rails only, or a slab before cutting a tiny center.

Finished front 18" (18.0000) × 5" (5.0000); two stiles at 5" (5.0000), two rails at 14 1/4" (14.2500), cut panel 14 3/16" (14.1875) × 1 3/16" (1.1875).

The deeper face: verify the remaining panel instead of carrying the shallow-face warning into every drawer.

Finished front 18" (18.0000) × 10" (10.0000); two stiles at 10" (10.0000), two rails at 14 1/4" (14.2500), cut panel 14 3/16" (14.1875) × 6 3/16" (6.1875).

Questions about shaker drawer front dimensions

Is the small-panel threshold a woodworking standard?

No. It is our explicit planning flag for discussing slim rails or a slab. It neither proves a five-piece face is unsafe nor certifies a slab attachment.

Must slimmer drawer rails also mean slimmer stiles?

No. The rails-only comparison changes the horizontal members independently. The main reference table also shows an all-slim frame, which changes the panel width as well.

Do these dimensions describe the drawer box?

No. These are the finished decorative front and its frame parts. Size the box and its bottom using the slide-specific drawer calculator after establishing the available opening.
