Shaker Kitchen Door Dimensions
The 21 × 27-inch opening becomes a 22 × 28-inch single door with the selected half-inch overlay. It yields a 18.2500-inch rail and 18.1875 × 24.1875-inch panel.
Does the opening need one leaf or two?
This page fixes the outer overlay at half an inch per edge so the opening-to-cut-list chain stays auditable. The mounting hardware still determines whether that coverage is suitable for your actual cabinet.
Choose single or paired fronts before calculating frame parts. A pair divides the total coverage around a separately entered center gap; it does not cut a completed single-door panel in half. The comparison uses the existing calculator’s center-gap example.
Check adjacent handles and swing space, then record each leaf’s outside rectangle. For inset reveals or a different overlay, switch to the mounting tool rather than quietly carrying this page’s preset into another construction.

Two worked choices for this front
The site’s default opening: carry one calculated outside rectangle through to its rail and panel cuts.
Finished front 22" (22.0000) × 28" (28.0000); two stiles at 28" (28.0000), two rails at 18 1/4" (18.2500), cut panel 18 3/16" (18.1875) × 24 3/16" (24.1875).
A narrower kitchen opening: compare one leaf with a pair and inspect the resulting small panels before deciding.
Finished front 16" (16.0000) × 31" (31.0000); two stiles at 31" (31.0000), two rails at 12 1/4" (12.2500), cut panel 12 3/16" (12.1875) × 27 3/16" (27.1875).
Questions about shaker kitchen door dimensions
Is half-inch overlay correct for every kitchen?
No. It is the fixed planning example on this page. The actual cabinet, hinge and mounting plate determine the usable coverage and clearances.
What changes when I choose paired doors?
The calculator divides the opening coverage between two leaves after subtracting the center gap. It then calculates the frame and panel for each leaf separately.
Can I use these rows for an inset kitchen?
No. Inset fronts subtract perimeter reveals instead of adding overlay. Use the linked inset-versus-overlay tool to establish that different finished size first.
